09-Dec-2022 00:00

On December 9, 2022, the Junior Docent Experience Program was successfully launched at Sanqingshan UNESCO Global Geopark Museum. To give full play to the museum’s science education role as a designated National Science Popularization Education Base and bring youngsters closer to museum resources, the museum organized the themed activity I Speak for Sanqingshan.

First, senior professional interpreters delivered centralized training sessions covering fundamental presentation skills. Afterwards, official science interpreters led children on a full guided museum tour to walk through standard visiting routes and master core interpretive knowledge points.

Further specialized systematic training will be arranged for the junior docents in the future. Participants are encouraged to take part in volunteer services during summer vacations, holidays and spare time, providing free guided tours for visitors, disseminating earth science knowledge and gaining personal fulfillment and self-improvement through public service.

The program gives full play to the social education functions of the World Natural Heritage Site and UNESCO Global Geopark, showcases their unique features and inherent values and raises public awareness of ecological protection. It cultivates youngsters’ affection for their hometown and instills the eco-friendly philosophy of harmonious coexistence between humanity and nature. Meanwhile, hands-on practice helps children improve their comprehensive capabilities including observation, critical thinking, association and verbal expression.
