Overview of Natural Ecology and Plant and Animal Resources

Sanqing Mountain World Geopark has excellent natural ecology, rich animal and plant resources, and prominent biodiversity.  

In terms of plant resources, the park is home to 2,373 species of higher plants, with a forest coverage rate of 90.1%, and shows clear vertical vegetation zonation. The park is rich in rare tree species, including over a thousand acres of contiguous native forests of East China Fir, which have significant conservation and ornamental value, as well as rare and endangered plants such as Fujian Cypress, Southern Hemlock, and White Bean Yew. It is also known for producing valuable traditional Chinese medicinal materials, such as Eucommia and Ganoderma lucidum.  

Animal resources are equally abundant, with 1,728 recorded species of wild animals. Among them, first-class nationally protected wild animals include the black musk deer, clouded leopard, and long-tailed pheasant with a white neck; second-class nationally protected wild animals include macaques, Tibetan macaques, black bears, and the large civet. The park serves as an important habitat for wildlife in the region.
