How is granite formed
Granite is a common and widespread igneous rock on Earth. It forms when magma originating deep in the crust or upper mantle intrudes into the middle-upper crust and cools slowly and crystallizes. It is therefore also called intrusive rock. Its formation depth is usually 5–30 kilometers below the Earth’s surface, so it is also classified as a plutonic rock.
Granite is mainly composed of minerals such as quartz, feldspar and mica. It is a hard crystalline rock that is very resistant to erosion.
