Geoparks and Culture
The mission of the Global Geoparks Network is to protect the Earth’s geological heritage and promote local sustainable development. Essentially, geoparks act as a bond for humanity to explore and shape the relationship between the Earth and human society. The Earth sustains all aspects of human life, including agricultural production, construction materials, lifestyles, and even myths, folklore and local customs. Unique landscapes and landforms nurture distinctive local history, folk culture and humanistic spirits, serving as a vivid embodiment of the integration and coexistence of nature and culture. Therefore, Global Geoparks strive in many ways to highlight and demonstrate such profound connections.
