Sanqingshan Participates in the Achievement Launch Conference Commemorating the 70th Anniversary of UNESCO and the 30th Anniversary of China’s Accession to the World Heritage Convention

On November 25, 2015, the Achievement Launch Conference Commemorating the 70th Anniversary of UNESCO and the 30th Anniversary of China’s Accession to the World Heritage Convention was held at the Palace Museum. The conference was hosted by the UNESCO Beijing Office and co-organized by the Palace Museum and World Heritage Magazine. As a site of the UNESCO-Mercedes-Benz Star Fund Conservation Project, Sanqingshan was invited to attend the event.

 

At the conference, a series of achievements marking the 30th anniversary of China’s accession to the World Heritage Convention were released, including:

The Chinese editions of four UNESCO World Heritage resource manuals, namely Disaster Risk Management for World Heritage, Management of World Natural Heritage, Preparation for World Heritage Site Nomination, and Management of World Cultural HeritageBulletin on the Development of China’s World Natural Heritage (1985–2015)China’s Cultural Heritage: 30 Years; and UNESCO-Mercedes-Benz Star Fund Report on the Achievements of the China World Heritage Site Conservation and Management Project (2007–2015).

 

Following the release of the achievements, the participants held in-depth discussions on the future directions of cooperation between the UNESCO Beijing Office and the conservation and management authorities of China’s World Heritage sites, covering capacity-building, management effectiveness, awareness promotion and public participation for World Heritage sites. Representatives from various heritage sites shared their practical experience, and relevant experts conducted in-depth exchanges on the feasibility and plans for heritage conservation in the coming period.

 

A photo exhibition featuring China’s 48 World Heritage sites was also held during the conference, visually presenting the achievements China has made in World Heritage conservation over the past 30 years.
