On December 4, 2015, the United Nations General Assembly passed a resolution designating 2017 as the International Year of Sustainable Tourism Development. The resolution believes that "international tourism, especially the establishment of the International Year of Sustainable Tourism Development, is of great significance. Tourism can enhance understanding among people from all over the world, increase awareness of the rich heritage of various civilizations, and respect the intrinsic value of different cultures, thereby promoting world peace
The "Gold Medal Partner Joint Logo" has been officially released
In response to the United Nations resolution, the Executive Board of the Global Geoparks Network (GGN) has decided to designate GGN as the "Gold Partner" for this development year and carry out a series of promotional activities worldwide. At the same time, GGN has also released a joint logo to promote this activity and encouraged all GGN members to actively use and participate, taking the opportunity to enhance their visibility and influence.
Previously, GGN released a promotional video for the International Year of Sustainable Tourism Development, which showcased the contributions and achievements of members of UNESCO Global Geoparks in geology, natural and cultural heritage conservation, sustainable tourism, and community economic development. The video selects the scene of folk activities in the Yinjiang Community of Mount Sanqing Geopark, which shows Mount Sanqing's achievements in the exploration of community traditional culture and sustainable tourism.

It is reported that the resolution to designate 2017 as the International Year of Sustainable Tourism Development follows the consensus reached by global leaders at the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development (Rio+20), which aims to promote sustainable development in three major areas through "well-designed and well managed tourism", create employment, and facilitate trade. The Secretary General of the United Nations World Tourism Organization, Ray Fay, stated that this provides a special opportunity for the tourism industry to extend its contributions to the three pillars of economic, social, and environmental sustainable development, while raising awareness of the true scale of the tourism industry.
