The China Association for Science and Technology recently announced the first group of institutions designated as National Popular scientific education Bases for the 2021-2025 period. Sanqingshan UGGp has been successfully included in this list.
In recent years, Sanqingshan UGGp has fully leveraged its role in public scientific education by consistently conducting outreach activities, strengthening its infrastructure and supporting services, and enhancing public awareness of the scientific value of protected natural areas.
Renovating the Sanqingshan Geological Museum and establishing new scientific education corridors, along with interpretive signage for geological relics and biodiversity, offering the public accessible explanations on the geology, landforms, ecology, and culture of the Geopark.
Developing a range of scientific education materials, such as A Journey to Sanqingshan UGGp with Us, Sanqingshan Picture Album, Sanqingshan Cultural Series, Scientific Tourist Map, and brochures.
Organizing distinctive scientific educational activities, including campus science tours, events for World Earth Day (April 22) and Cultural and Natural Heritage Day, and photo exhibitions in schools.
Upgrading facilities at Sanqingshan School to improve educational quality and functionality, and creating specialized learning spaces such as a geology classroom, a global shared classroom, and a woodworking skills workshop, tailored to the local mountainous context.
The Geopark has also focused on developing and launching study tour programs, integrating resources across geology, biology, and revolutionary culture. Centered around the Sanqingshan Geological Museum, it has combined educational bases such as the Immortal Valley Study Tour Education and Practice Base, Xiaoyao Valley Study Tour Base, and Sanqingshan International Study Tour Camp. Through product design, curriculum optimization, and collaborative promotion, the Geopark has developed geological study tours, shared stories of revolutionary culture, explored the depth of ancient heritage, and built a distinctive study tour brand.
The Sanqingshan UGGp has earned multiple recognitions, including selection as one of the first group of Geoscience Popularization and Study Tour Bases by the Geological Society of China, a Jiangxi Provincial Popular scientific education Base, one of the second batch of Research and Practice Education Bases for Primary and Secondary School Students in Jiangxi Province, and one of the first such bases in Shangrao City. To date, it has hosted over 80 study tour groups and provided professional geoscience interpretation to more than 60,000 visitors.
With its designation as a National Popular Scientific Education Base, the Sanqingshan UGGp will enhance its scientific educational efforts, actively organize public science outreach activities, strengthen scientific engagement and public participation, promote the sustainable development of the base, and build an integrated system that combines the Study Tour Area, the Tourist Area, and the Geopark.
