Teenagers are the future decision-makers and guardians of World Heritage, and encouraging young people to understand World Heritage and join the team of World Heritage conservation is a long-term commitment of UNESCO. On the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the establishment of UNESCO and the 30th anniversary of China's accession to the World Heritage Convention, the UNESCO Representative Office in China, with the assistance of multiple institutions, launched the World Heritage Children's Picture Book Competition, aiming to encourage young people to participate in the protection of World Heritage sites.

The competition was hosted by the UNESCO Representative Office in China and the Mount Sanqing Scenic Area Management Committee, and hosted by the Chinese Education Society. It will be launched on Tuesday, April 7th, 2015 from 10:00-11:30am.

The main participants of this competition are children and teenagers, including students in primary schools, high schools and universities. They will take Mount Sanqing as the object to create picture books for children aged 3-12. The competition encourages the contestants to show the aesthetic, scientific, cultural and other values of Mount Sanqing by telling stories, and encourages the use of diversified painting or expression methods, including but not limited to the artistic expression forms of intangible cultural heritage such as traditional Chinese painting, calligraphy and Paper Cuttings.

This competition will also attract experts from the fields of World Heritage conservation, education, and volunteer activities, as well as experts from the publishing and art industries, to join the judging team. The judges will select four of the best works in this competition. The winners will be invited to participate in and present and explain their works at the special session of the "UNESCO World Heritage Forum Series - World Heritage and Sustainable Tourism" held in Mount Sanqing, Jiangxi Province, from May 20 to 22, 2015. The rest of the entries will also be displayed during the forum. Excellent works will have the opportunity to be published, promoted, and ultimately form a series of Chinese World Heritage picture books in the future.
