Sanqingshan UGGp boasts a wide variety of azaleas that grow extensively across the mountain. As the official city flower of Shangrao, Sanqingshan azaleas are renowned as “the finest azaleas under heaven”. True to their annual schedule, this year’s blooms are unfolding in shades of red, white and pink along the cliffside plank roads and among the canyon peaks, soon to cover the mountains in a spectacular “sea of flowers”—the most dazzling feast of May.

Azaleas carry rich symbolic meanings, representing “forever yours”, “moderation”, “joy of love”, “prosperity and good fortune”, “loyalty and purity” and other beautiful wishes. According to local folklore, when azaleas bloom all over the mountains, it is the arrival of the god of love. After a year of preparation and the cycle of four seasons, Sanqingshan azaleas burst into full bloom, presenting visitors with a magnificent display of natural vitality.

To help visitors enjoy the azaleas precisely, the scenic area has specially issued the Panoramic Azalea Distribution Map, marking the major flower-viewing routes and real-time bloom conditions. Visitors can plan their tour routes accordingly, climb high for distant views, and admire the splendid clusters of flowers like colorful clouds. They will experience the fairyland where “mountains are in a painting, and people are among flowers”.
