Shangrao City Museum was established on December 15, 1984, located at No. 19 Guangxin Avenue, Shangrao City, Jiangxi Province (east side of Entrepreneurship Culture Park). It is a comprehensive urban museum. The construction of the new museum began in 2016 and officially opened to the public on May 18, 2019. In 2020, it was selected for the "fourth batch of national second-level museums" list, and it was promoted to a national first-class museum in 2024. The museum covers an area of more than 14,000 square meters, with a building area of over 10,000 square meters and an exhibition area of more than 3,000 square meters.

The entire museum has 5 permanent exhibition halls and 2 special temporary exhibition halls. The permanent exhibition halls are: "Charming Land—Exhibition on the General History of Shangrao," "Long Cultural Legacy—Exhibition on the Humanities of Shangrao," "Treasure of Nature—Exhibition on the Material Civilization of Shangrao," "Folk Customs and Traditions—Exhibition on Intangible Cultural Heritage of Shangrao," and "Monument of Passion—Exhibition on the Revolutionary History of Shangrao."

The museum's collection consists of more than 15,086 cultural relics, including 1,155 precious items. The collection of Raozhou mirrors ranks among the top in China in both quantity and variety. The collection includes stoneware, pottery, bronzeware, gold and silver artifacts, paintings and calligraphy, revolutionary relics, and more. The museum also ranks among the top in the province for Song, Yuan, Ming, and Qing dynasty stele rubbings and ancient books representing Zhu Xi's Neo-Confucianism. The museum holds over 30 relics dating back 20,000 years.
