On World Earth Day 2022, to strengthen promotional coordination and science outreach exchanges among sister geoparks and lay a solid foundation for the smooth rollout of events marking the 3rd Asia Pacific Geoparks Week and World Earth Day, Sanqingshan together with 21 other UNESCO Global Geoparks co-hosted the online launch ceremony for three concurrent initiatives the Sister Geopark Interactive Exhibition & Exchange Campaign for the 3rd Asia Pacific Geoparks Week and the 53rd World Earth Day, as well as the 6th Most Beautiful Marks of the Earth themed science education event.
The kick-off ceremony was streamed live online via Tencent Meeting, Douyin and other livestream platforms, with Yandangshan UNESCO Global Geopark presiding over the event.
Jin Xiaochi, Vice President of the Global Geoparks Network, and Zheng Yuan, Director of the Office of National Geopark Network Center, delivered addresses. They affirmed the positive contribution of the Asia Pacific Geoparks Week and World Earth Day campaigns to expanding the nationwide influence of geoparks in science education. Representatives from Danxiashan, Yimengshan and Longyan UNESCO Global Geoparks shared their geoparks’ progress in science outreach and exchanges under the sister-geopark partnership framework. During the live stream, Sanqingshan, Yandangshan, Danxiashan, Zhangjiajie and other geoparks presented live guided virtual tours featuring their iconic geological features, while Dali Cangshan, Lushan, Shilin and Huanggang Dabieshan showcased their sites through pre-recorded documentaries.
At Sanqingshan’s sub-event venue, science interpreter Zhou Xia briefly outlined the park’s geological characteristics, introducing landmark geosites such as Python Slithers out of Mountain and Oriental Goddess. Interactive quizzes were arranged to engage online viewers, enabling audiences nationwide to explore Sanqingshan remotely and boosting the park’s publicity.
The event elevated the international profile of the 22 participating geoparks, consolidated communication and cooperation among sister geoparks, and laid a solid groundwork for future offline science education exchanges and regional sustainable development.
