Live Stream for the 57th World Earth Day Celebration of Sanqingshan UNESCO Global Geopark Concludes Successfully

On April 26, 2026, the themed live stream Exploring the Epic of Granite: Decoding Geology and Cultural Secrets came to a successful end. The event was delivered by Professor Xu Kejian from China University of Geosciences (Beijing), with Zhou Xia from Sanqingshan Geological Museum joining via live remote connection. Centered on the evolutionary laws of granite geology, the scientific value of the World Heritage Site and the popularization of geological science education, the live broadcast drew online audiences consisting of faculty, students from China University of Geosciences (Beijing) and numerous online viewers. Audiences actively took part in online quizzes, creating a vibrant interactive atmosphere.

During the live broadcast, Professor Xu Kejian adopted a geodynamic perspective to systematically elaborate on the formation mechanism of Sanqingshan’s granite peak forests formed over hundreds of millions of years. He elaborated on the scientific research value of characteristic landforms such as peak pillars, peak clusters and peak walls, depicting the grand evolutionary epic of Sanqingshan’s unique granite geology in accessible and lively popular science wording.

Zhou Xia from Sanqingshan Geological Museum was invited for a real-time online connection. Drawing on frontline experience in geological conservation, she shared Sanqingshan’s regular achievements in exploring the value of geological heritage, conserving biodiversity, and inheriting living Taoist culture. The presentation enabled online viewers to gain an intuitive understanding of the geopark’s development philosophy prioritizing conservation and empowering development through science education.

Featuring solid professionalism, wide-ranging science education coverage and extensive online dissemination, the live stream not only systematically delivered advanced geological knowledge and fully showcased Sanqingshan’s achievements in World Heritage conservation and profound cultural heritage, but also raised public awareness of geological relic preservation, ecological protection and World Heritage inheritance. It helped foster a robust online science education atmosphere for the 57th World Earth Day.
