World Heritage volunteer activities
The Geopark has repeatedly provided support including organizational coordination and free admission for the World Heritage Volunteers China Action events organized by the UNESCO World Heritage Committee and the International Volunteer Coordination Committee.
In July 2015, marking the 70th anniversary of the founding of UNESCO and the 30th anniversary of China's accession to the World Heritage Convention, 23 international youth volunteers of the "Patrimonito" World Heritage Programme from 8 countries and regions including the United Kingdom, France, Spain, and South Korea visited Xikeng Primary School in Sanqingshan, holding the second stop of the International Volunteer Sanqing Tour at the World Heritage Site.
Over the course of five days, the volunteers immersed themselves in the Geopark, extensively promoting heritage conservation knowledge through a series of activities. These included picking up litter, standardizing and proofreading scenic area signboards, organizing "Heritage Protection" pledge signature sessions, and distributing heritage protection brochures to visitors. Through these practical actions, they aimed to arouse visitors' awareness of protecting World Heritage sites. Additionally, the volunteers visited Xikeng Central Primary School, the heritage site's local school. There, they educated young people on heritage conservation using lively and engaging interactive games as well as paintings created by the Patrimonito youth heritage ambassadors. This initiative sought to instill the concept of conservation deep in the hearts of the next generation living within the heritage site.
