In September 2012, Sanqingshan UGGp attended Greek Lesvos Island UGGp for survey and study, during which the two sides concluded a sister geopark relation.
Lesvos Island UGGp formerly known as Lesvos Petrified Forest Geopark, is located on Lesvos Island in the northeastern Aegean Sea, near the coast of Asia Minor. It is a founding member of the UNESCO Global Geoparks Network and one of the original four members of the European Geoparks Network. It was officially included in the UNESCO Global Geoparks Network in 2004. The geopark is characterized by its rare Miocene petrified forest, which possesses extremely high geological and paleontological research value, as well as unique volcanic landforms. It serves as a natural witness to the 20millionyear geological history of the Aegean Basin.

Lesvos Island is the third largest island in Greece and the seventh largest in the Mediterranean, covering an area of 1,636 square kilometers with a coastline of 370 kilometers. Shaped like a leaf, the island has two major gulfs, the Gulf of Gera and the Gulf of Kalloni. Its highest peaks are Mount Lepetymnos and Mount Olympus. Most of the eastern and central parts of the island are included in the EU Natura 2000 ecological protection network. The land is fertile and rich in vegetation, with olive trees, pines, oaks and endemic wildflowers spread across the island.
