Wugongshan UGGp, Jiangxi

In April 2023, Sanqingshan UGGp and Wugongshan UGGp officially established a sister geopark relationship, opening a new chapter in cooperation between the two sites in geopark management, geological heritage protection, personnel exchange and other fields.

Wugongshan UGGp is located at the junction of Pingxiang, Yichun and Ji’an cities in western Jiangxi Province, in the northern section of the Luoxiao Mountains. It is the only geopark in the world dominated by a granite dome structure and featuring a complete vertically zoned geomorphological landscape. The geopark covers a considerable total area. Its geological heritage is characterized by granite domes, alpine meadows, peak forests, waterfalls and a circular hot spring chain. It contains 103 geological heritage sites, including 4 world-class ones. Here, 150,000 mu of alpine meadows stretch across the mountain summits; granite peak forests and peak walls extend continuously; and uniquely shaped waterfalls complement spectacular peaks. All its geological landscapes are controlled by the formation and evolution of the granite dome structure. Vertically, it exhibits typical zonation: alpine meadows on granite weathering crusts, granite peak forests, Z‑shaped steep slope waterfall clusters, and a circular hot spring chain, forming a complete geological landscape system. Meanwhile, the geopark is one of China’s typical ecological transition zones, home to 68 rare, endangered and nationally protected wild plant species, with abundant ecological resources.
