From September 4 to 11, 2022, the 7th Asia Pacific Geoparks Network Symposium was held in a hybrid online and offline format at Satun UNESCO Global Geopark, Thailand. The theme of the conference was “UNESCO Global Geoparks: Building Sustainable Communities”. Sanqingshan UGGp participated in the symposium online and submitted a poster presentation titled “The Educational Tourism Products for the Sanqingshan Geologica Museum”.
The conference featured a rich and practical agenda. Keynote speeches were delivered by representatives from the UGGps Secretariat, the Global Geoparks Network Bureau, the Asia Pacific Geoparks Network, and the UGGps Youth Forum. The symposium conducted in-depth exchanges around seven themes: sustainable development, geological hazard mitigation, geodiversity, sustainable tourism, education and interpretation, cultural heritage, and aspiring geoparks. In addition, the organizer held special academic seminars, geological exhibitions, intangible cultural heritage exhibitions and other events.
During the same period, the UNESCO Global Geoparks Council meeting, the Asia Pacific Geoparks Network Coordinator meeting, and the Advisory Committee meeting were also convened. The election of the new APGN Coordinator and Deputy Coordinator was successfully completed. It was announced that the 8th Asia Pacific Geoparks Network Symposium will be held in September 2024 at Cao Bang UGGp, Vietnam.
