On October 13, 2015, representatives from 18 global geoparks and national geoparks nationwide, as well as representatives from land and resources departments and experts and scholars, gathered in Golmud to attend the 2015 Global Geopark Application and Re-evaluation Seminar and the Western Region Global Geopark Sustainable Development Seminar, summarizing and exchanging experiences in geopark protection, construction, and management, and jointly enhancing the capacity for sustainable development of geoparks. Sanqingshan Global Geopark will conduct its first re-assessment in 2016, with special representatives attending the seminar to learn from geopark management experience.
Chen Xiaoning, Deputy Director of the Department of Geological Environment at the Ministry of Land and Resources, pointed out that according to the newly issued "World Geopark Network Charter," the Executive Bureau responsible for the assessment will include members of the UNESCO Secretariat and geology experts to join, and the assessment results must be approved by relevant UNESCO meetings. Therefore, 2016 will see the most rigorous development assessment since the establishment of the World Geoparks Network. It is hoped that all geological parks will study seriously in light of the current environment and policy background, deeply understand the "National Geopark Master Planning Work Guide," examine their own shortcomings item by item based on this guide, make serious corrections, and actively engage in international experience and academic exchanges to enhance their own capabilities. Wang Xiaolie, Director of the National Geopark Network Center, profoundly explained the background and significance of this conference, reported on the 2015 re-evaluation of the World Geopark applications, and put forward clear requirements for unifying the image of all geoparks, cultivating management talent, and continuing scientific research.
During the meeting, Sanqing Mountain gave a live speech to report to the attending experts on the park's 2016 re-assessment and listened to expert advice. Sanqingshan Global Geopark carefully listened to the new requirements and key points of the assessment during the study, drawing on the successful experiences of newly joined and successful re-evaluations by Tianzhushan Global Geopark, Zhijin Cave Global Geopark, Dunhuang Global Geopark, and others, ensuring the re-evaluation goes smoothly next year.
This meeting enhanced our understanding of GGN's latest concepts, clarified the future direction of the park's construction and development, and provided important guidance for future protection, management, and construction of the park.
