On August 23, 2018, a special symposium on the assessment of World Geoparks organized by the National Geoparks Network Center was held in Beijing. More than 50 leaders, managers, and experts from relevant organizations such as the State Forestry and Grassland Administration, the Chinese Academy of Geological Sciences, UNESCO Global Geopark, the Institute of Geology of the Chinese Academy of Geological Sciences, the Institute of Geological Mechanics of the Chinese Academy of Geological Sciences, the Karst Geological Institute of the Chinese Academy of Geological Sciences, and the China University of Geosciences (Beijing) attended the meeting. Representatives from Sanqingshan Global Geopark attended the meeting.
The meeting was chaired by He Qingcheng, Executive Director of the National Geopark Network Center. Attendees engaged in lively discussions on topics such as the construction and assessment of the World Geopark, mutual visits and international cooperation exchanges among global geoparks, organization and cooperation of the Asia-Pacific Geopark Network, preparations for the 8th World Geoparks Congress in 2018, and plans for the next steps in geoparks. While sharing practical experiences, they also raised their own questions and concerns. Evaluation experts such as Zheng Yuan, Director of the Office of the National Geopark Network Center and Jin Xiaochi, Vice Chairman of the Global Geoparks Network, answered the questions raised by the representatives and interpreted documents such as the UNESCO World Geopark Charter and Work Guidelines. Finally, Inspector Liu Yuan and Director Yuan Xiaohong of the National Forestry and Grassland Administration each delivered concluding speeches.
Representatives from the Sanqingshan Global Geopark actively participated in discussions, sharing and exchanging ideas with peers to promote the construction, management, and development of the park.
