Recently, in preparation for the upcoming UNESCO revalidation of Sanqingshan UGGp, which will assess the progress in its conservation and management over the past four years, the Geopark has undertaken comprehensive preparatory measures.
Wang Qinghui, Director of the Sanqingshan UGGp Administrative Committee, emphasized the importance of the revalidation and chaired a coordination meeting to review the progress of relevant tasks. During the meeting, key challenges and difficulties in the current revalidation process were identified, and priorities for the next phase were established. It was emphasized that, in accordance with UNESCO revalidation standards and feedback from the 2019 expansion evaluation, all aspects—including geoheritage conservation, geoscientific research, science popularization, interpretation systems, and brand promotion—should be carefully reviewed against inspection criteria. Thorough problem identification, targeted rectification, and full preparatory efforts are required to receive a green card.
Following the meeting, Deputy Director Ye Wuqing and Assistant Director Bai Yijun led the Geopark Management Bureau on field inspections along key routes, covering core areas such as the Sanqingshan Main Area, Huaiyushan Area, Zihu Town, Shenxian Valley, Baqi Community, Yinjiang Community, Sanqingshan School, and Lingji Temple Cultural Block. They conducted detailed assessments of the visibility , interpretation, and environmental conditions at each location. Issues related to infrastructure projects, environmental improvements, and gaps in inspection readiness were documented, and corresponding solutions and corrective measures were discussed and proposed. The team stressed the need to promptly formulate a detailed rectification plan to ensure all preparations are fully completed ahead of the revalidation inspection.
