Recently, we learned from the management committee of Mount Sanqing Scenic Area that the scenic area has started the work procedure of applying for the World Geopark in an all-round way, and has officially made a dash for the World Geopark.
After nearly 20 years of development and construction, Mount Sanqing Scenic Area has now possessed a number of top tourism brands, such as "World Natural Heritage", "National 5A Scenic Area", "National Geopark", and enjoys a high popularity and reputation in national and even world tourism attractions.
It is understood that the Mount Sanqing Scenic Spot was listed by the Ministry of Land and Resources as the sixth batch of world geoparks (2012) declaration unit in January 2010. Xinjiang Kanas Scenic Spot was also declared as the world geopark with this scenic spot. The application for the World Geopark is divided into five stages: domestic review and recommendation, submission of application documents, park environmental improvement, expert on-site inspection, and conference review and voting. At present, the scenic spot has completed the domestic evaluation and recommendation stage, and is currently undergoing environmental remediation of the geopark. It is expected that the UNESCO Global Geopark Network Office will announce the application results in September 2012.
On November 30, Mount Sanqing held a mobilization meeting to apply for the inspection and renovation of the World Geopark. This is another top business card of Mount Sanqing after successfully winning the World Natural Heritage and National 5A Tourist Attraction. Zhu Yinjian, Vice Mayor, attended the meeting and delivered a speech. A total of 300 people from various departments and agencies in Mount Sanqing attended the meeting.
Since Mount Sanqing was awarded the World Natural Heritage in 2008, the Party Committee and the Management Committee of Mount Sanqing Scenic Area have been unswerving, unrelenting, scientific guidance, perseverance and full promotion in accordance with the application goal of the World Geopark. At the beginning of 2010, Mount Sanqing passed the review of the sixth batch of recommended world geoparks organized by the Ministry of Land and Resources, and was included in the declaration unit of China in 2012. In August this year, Mount Sanqing completed the preparation of a complete set of application materials and successfully submitted them to the Ministry of Land and Resources, which will formally submit them to UNESCO for review before the end of the year. At present, the application of Mount Sanqing for the World Geopark has entered the stage of preparation for the United Nations experts' visit. This is another big exam in Mount Sanqing after the declaration of World Natural Heritage. To this end, Mount Sanqing specially held a mobilization meeting for the application of the World Geopark for inspection and renovation, and specially deployed the application of Mount Sanqing for inspection and renovation of the World Geopark.
Zhu Yinjian pointed out that the application for the World Geopark is the work requirement of the municipal party committee and government to build a national tourism city, and is also a major measure taken by the party committee and the management committee of Mount Sanqing Scenic Area to build a "domestic first-class and world famous" scenic spot. It helps to improve the scientific and cultural taste of Mount Sanqing and accelerate the transformation and upgrading of Mount Sanqing's tourism industry. It is related to the scientific development of the scenic spot and the national honor. Only success, not failure, is allowed. Doing well in the work of reporting for inspection is an inevitable requirement to ensure the success of Mount Sanqing's application for the World Geopark; It is the current transformation and upgrading of Mount Sanqing's tourism industry and the practical need to achieve sustainable development; It is a strategic need to implement the construction of a modern regional center city that is livable, business friendly, and tourism friendly, as proposed by the Third Party Congress of the city. Zhu Yinjian asked Mount Sanqing to understand the current situation, grasp the overall situation, and further enhance the sense of responsibility and mission of the work of applying for the World Geopark to meet the inspection; To focus on key points, create highlights, and ensure significant results in the application and inspection of world geological parks; We need to strengthen measures, make every effort to promote, and ensure the smooth progress of the application for the inspection of the World Geopark.
