Yufeng Village

Yufeng Village is located in the Yufeng Basin, with an average altitude of over 1,000 meters and a wide, flat terrain. Known as the "Beautiful Jiangnan Plateau", it is the highest-altitude, coolest and most capacious alpine summer resort along the Zhejiang-Jiangxi Railway in East China, just like a paradise hidden deep in the mountains.

The village has a mid-subtropical humid monsoon climate with typical alpine characteristics. The annual average temperature is 12°C–16°C, and the average temperature in July (summer) is only about 23°C. The annual average rainfall reaches 2,200 mm. The local saying—“Cover with a quilt even in midsummer nights; peaches ripen only after the Start of Autumn”—vividly describes its unique climate. The village boasts picturesque scenery year-round: azaleas bloom all over the mountains in spring, mist and clouds linger in late spring and early summer, it stays cool and pleasant during the hottest summer days, and in deep winter, ice hangs like jade, creating spectacular and elegant landscapes.

Yufeng Village boasts an excellent ecology with abundant forestry, agricultural and mountain-water tourism resources. The village features flat terrain and distinct large-scale agricultural landscapes, with a forest coverage rate exceeding 80%, making it a natural ecological oxygen bar. Clear mountain springs flow down the valleys and converge into waterfalls, forming the magnificent scenery of cascades and deep pools — the renowned Eighteen Dragon Pools. The village has a profound ancient cultural heritage, preserving the ruins of Huaiyu Academy and cliff inscriptions by historical figures including Zhu Xi, Wang Zongmu and Zhao You. Its red cultural resources are particularly distinctive; it was the place where Fang Zhimin led the Chinese Workers’ and Peasants’ Red Army Advance Anti-Japanese Expeditionary Force Northward in battle and where he was captured. It is also the setting of his essay In Poverty. The village has been successively honored as Jiangxi Provincial Patriotism Education Base and China Youth Education Base. Red sites now stand here, including the Memorial Hall and Monument to the Red Army Advance Anti-Japanese Expeditionary Force Northward, the In Poverty Garden, and the Huxing Red Army Experience Area.

Relying on its exceptional alpine climate, Yufeng Village has vigorously developed alpine ecological agriculture. It has established an alpine leisure agricultural cooperative and built a 150-mu alpine agricultural demonstration base for targeted poverty alleviation, where pollution-free specialty alpine vegetables are grown. With national organic certification, local alpine vegetables including potatoes, green beans, peppers and cucumbers sell well in the Yangtze River Delta and Pearl River Delta regions. The village has also raised 1.5 million yuan to develop a cherry planting base and a Chinese herbal medicine base for raspberries, helping poor households working at the bases increase their annual income by an average of 2,000 yuan per household.

Meanwhile, taking full advantage of light resources, Yufeng Village has built the city’s first photovoltaic poverty alleviation project, operated under the model of “Cooperative + Agricultural-Photovoltaic-Tourism Base + Poor Households”. All 52 poor households in the village have joined the cooperative and benefited, with an average annual household income increase of over 3,000 yuan and an annual collective income increase of more than 400,000 yuan for the village. The village has blazed a distinctive path of coordinated development among ecology, cultural tourism and industrial revitalization.
