Jinxi Village

Jinxi Village is located at the southern foot of Huaiyushan, a natural village in Huaiyu Township, Yushan County. Formerly known as Yijin Township and also named Huadamén, it was later renamed Jinxi (literally "Brocade Stream") because the Yuya Stream runs through it, creating splendid scenery like brocade at night. According to the Huaiyu Chen Clan Genealogy, more than 150 imperial officials came from Jinxi. It is the hometown of Chen Kanghe and Chen Kangbo, chancellors of the Song Dynasty. A royal couplet has been passed down: "Three times returning home in brocade official robes; twice supporting the red sun to raise high in the sky." Jinxi is also the birthplace of the Chen Clan in the Jiangnan region.

Jinxi Village covers a total area of 10.8 square kilometers with rich ecological resources, including 10,917 mu of forest land (forest coverage rate 67%) and 1,480 mu of arable land. The cultivated land is mainly used for growing rice, vegetables and other crops, while the mountain forests produce timber, camellia and cyclocarya paliurus (green money willow).

Jinxi Village boasts profound cultural heritage, with the ancient reputation:

“Yushan culture stems from Huaiyu, and Huaiyu culture thrives in Jinxi.”

It is home to several intangible cultural heritage items: Yushan Ban Performing Arts is a provincial-level ICH, and the Yushan Xiatang Wine (Hetang Feast) custom is a municipal-level ICH. In addition, the village preserves precious architectural and historical heritage: an ancient Qing Dynasty stage, several traditional residences (brick-timber structures in Huizhou style with white walls, gray tiles and horse-head walls), and the Ancient Jinxi Pagoda built in the Yongle period of the Ming Dynasty—a seven-story, six-sided pavilion-style geomantic pagoda.
