According to meteorological forecasts, persistent heavy rainfall is expected to hit Sanqingshan UNESCO Global Geopark from May 20 to May 26, accompanied locally by severe convective weather including short-duration intense precipitation and thunderstorms. To fully guarantee visitors’ safety during their trip, the geopark issues the following safety reminders:

The geopark remains open to the public as normal with all sightseeing facilities operating smoothly. The emergency response plan for the rainy season has been activated to reinforce patrol monitoring and emergency duty rosters. Visitors are advised to closely follow the latest updates released via the official WeChat official account and arrange itineraries reasonably.

Before departure, keep track of meteorological alerts and official weather updates, and prepare rain gear such as raincoats, umbrellas and waterproof shoe covers. Sneakers or hiking boots with good anti-slip performance are recommended. While sightseeing, strictly abide by scenic warning signs and staff instructions; do not enter unopened or closed areas without permission. In case of sudden extreme weather such as gusty winds or torrential rain, take shelter immediately at nearby safe locations including visitor service centers, cable car stations and roadside rain shelters. Road surfaces become slippery in rainy weather; trekking poles are recommended for stability. Electronic devices should be properly stored and protected from water damage.

When extreme severe weather occurs, the geopark will temporarily close certain zones or dangerous sections near cliffs and water bodies. Visitors must follow on-site staff guidance and must not cross warning lines or force entry into closed areas. Travel agencies shall closely monitor heavy rain warnings and adjust group schedules appropriately to avoid organizing mountain climbing tours during downpours. Coaches drivers shall reduce speed, maintain a safe distance from other vehicles, and watch out for hazards such as falling rocks and landslides on mountain roads. Tour guides must carry rain gear, first-aid medicine and other emergency supplies on vehicles. All hotels and homestays shall retrieve or secure movable outdoor items in a timely manner (e.g., sun umbrellas, outdoor tables and chairs, billboards, flower pots). Outdoor swimming pools shall suspend operation during heavy rain, with drainage and anti-slip measures fully implemented. Operators of sightseeing facilities and water-based attractions shall strengthen safety inspections and maintenance. Water-based activities (rafting, water parks, waterfront trails, floating platforms, etc.) must suspend business, cordon off relevant areas and evacuate visitors promptly in response to rainfall intensity and rising water levels.
