May 12, 2025 marked the 17th National Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Day of China, with the period from May 12 to 18 designated as the National Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Publicity Week under the theme "Everyone Prioritizes Safety, Everyone Masters Emergency Response — Identifying Disaster Hazards Around Us."
On May 15, the Emergency Management Bureau and Social Development Bureau of Sanqingshan UNESCO Global Geopark, together with the Sanqingshan Branch of the Shangrao Municipal Natural Resources Bureau, visited Sanqingshan School to conduct a disaster prevention and mitigation science outreach activity, inviting Wang Lin, an expert from the Eighth Geological Brigade of Jiangxi Province, to deliver an on-site lecture.
Drawing on the geological and geomorphological characteristics of Sanqingshan and the situation of geological hazards in 2025, Wang Lin explained in an accessible manner the formation mechanisms, triggering factors and precursor signs of common geological hazards such as landslides and debris flows. Through analyses of real-world cases, he elaborated on the damage caused by such disasters and scientific, effective prevention and response measures, helping teachers and students develop a comprehensive understanding of geological hazards.
Staff at the event also distributed illustrated and easy-to-understand brochures on disaster prevention and mitigation, covering safety knowledge on geological hazards, fires and drowning prevention. More than 100 copies of publicity materials were distributed.
The event popularized knowledge of geological disaster prevention and mitigation, enhanced teachers' and students' abilities to identify, prevent and avoid disasters as well as to conduct self-rescue and mutual rescue, fostered a strong atmosphere of active participation in disaster prevention and mitigation among teachers and students, and further embedded the concept of disaster prevention and mitigation in the public consciousness.
