At the start of 2026, a ten-member volunteer service team consisting of teachers and students from China University of Geosciences (Beijing), Beijing Forestry University, China University of Mining and Technology (Beijing), Beijing Language and Culture University, Chinese Academy of Geological Sciences, Chengdu University of Technology, Xi’an University of Technology and other universities and research institutes visited the majestic and picturesque Sanqingshan UNESCO Global Geopark. Centered on the theme of Science Entering Campus 2026, the team delivered an informative feast integrating scientific exploration, outdoor nature experience and cultural heritage inheritance for students from five local schools: Sanqingshan School, Zihu Middle School, Zihu Primary School, Huaiyu Central Primary School and Huaiyu Middle School.

During the event, distinguished experts delivered featured lectures. Associate Professor Wu Wenhui from Chengdu University of Technology presented Getting to Know the Earth, guiding students through billions of years of geological evolution and unveiling the grand developmental history of our planet. Associate Professor Kuang Ying from China University of Geosciences (Beijing) gave a lecture on eco-friendly low-carbon lifestyles. With interactive scenarios and vivid real-life examples, she cultivated youngsters’ awareness of ecological civilization. Dr. Yang Lichao from the Chinese Academy of Geological Sciences shared Earth’s Tantrums: Uncovering Mysteries of Geological Disasters, systematically elaborating on the origins of common geological hazards as well as risk prevention and self-rescue skills to strengthen pupils’ safety awareness.

Student volunteers also brought their strengths into full play. They hosted an outdoor nature session titled Leave No Trace in Forests: Make Friends with Leaves, where children observed leaf shapes and felt leaf veins to appreciate the subtle beauty of life. In the fun-filled Minnan Dialect Workshop, entertaining games and role-play performances allowed the charm of the regional dialect to spread amid laughter.

Running for one week in total, the outreach programme comprised eight diverse practical courses. Combining education with entertainment and embedding knowledge within hands-on experiences, volunteers sparked rural students’ enthusiasm for geoscience, environmental protection and disaster mitigation. More importantly, they planted seeds of curiosity for unknown exploration, reverence for life, and passion for inheriting Minnan dialect and local culture in children’s hearts. Travelling between lush mountain valleys and bright classrooms, teachers and students jointly composed a warm and inspiring movement of growth in the early months of 2026.
