Mandarin Duck (Aix galericulata): "Yuan" refers to the male, and "Yang" to the female, hence Mandarin Duck is a compound term. It is a medium-sized duck of the order Anseriformes, with a body length of 38–45 cm and a body weight of about 0.5 kg. The male and female exhibit distinct sexual dimorphism. The male has a red bill, orange-yellow legs, and bright, magnificent plumage. It bears a striking crest on its head, broad white eyebrows behind the eyes, and a pair of erect chestnut-yellow fan-shaped feathers on its wings. The female has a black bill, orange-yellow legs, a greyish-brown head and entire upper body, white eye-rings connected to a thin white eyebrow stripe behind the eye.

As a famous ornamental bird in China, Mandarin Ducks are often seen in pairs and thus regarded as a symbol of love.
