What is Weathering?

26-May-2026 13:53

Weathering refers to the whole process whereby hard rocks and minerals undergo physical and chemical changes through contact with the atmosphere, water, and living organisms at or near the Earth's surface, forming loose deposits in situ.

Based on its agents and mechanisms, weathering can be divided into three types, namely physical weathering, chemical weathering and biological weathering.
