Is a geopark only related to geology?
The answer is no. Centered on precious geological relics, a geopark is by no means limited to geological elements alone. It is more like an open-air museum of the Earth, presenting billions of years of geological evolution, natural ecosystems and human history in an integrated way.
Geoparks are required to display geological relics of global significance. Their fundamental purpose is to explore, develop and demonstrate the connections between geological heritage and all other natural, cultural and intangible heritage within the region.
Geoparks reconnect all aspects of human society with the planet we call home. They fully demonstrate how our 4.6-billion-year-old Earth has shaped and influenced humanity and human society. As comprehensive parks integrating geology, ecology, humanities, research education and tourism, geoparks enable every visitor to understand the Earth, get close to nature and gain knowledge.
