On March 27, 2024, the UNESCO Executive Board approved the admission of 18 geoparks into the Global Geoparks Network. The total number of UNESCO Global Geoparks thus reached 213, spanning 48 countries.

On the evening of April 22, UNESCO and the Global Geoparks Network held the Welcome Digital Event for the new UNESCO Global Geoparks, formally welcoming the aforementioned new members into the UNESCO Global Geoparks family. Sanqingshan UNESCO Global Geopark participated in the event via video link.
