To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Global Geoparks Network (GGN), the Asia Pacific Geopark Network (APGN) Development Forum was successfully held in Hong Kong from May 13 to 18, 2024. Co-hosted by Hong Kong UNESCO Global Geopark and the National Geopark Network Center of China, the forum gathered delegates from 22 geoparks across China, the Republic of Korea, Japan, Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines and other regions to exchange experience in geopark construction and management, discuss existing challenges and share outstanding practical cases.
Adopting roundtable discussions, keynote presentations and field excursions, the forum built a professional exchange platform for in-depth discussions covering geopark operation and administration, commercial cooperation models, governmental and non-governmental support, as well as science popularization and education outreach, pooling consensus and actionable solutions for the sustainable development of global geoparks.
Invited to the event, Sanqingshan UNESCO Global Geopark took an active part in panel exchanges focusing on two core themes: improving the efficiency of geopark management and planning, and organizing innovative high-efficiency science education activities. The Geopark shared its practical achievements and experience in heritage conservation, geoscience popularization and Geopark operation. The participation deepened its partnerships with geoparks throughout the Asia-Pacific region and elevated Sanqingshan’s international standing within the Global Geoparks Network community.
