On November 17, 2020, the first GGN Digital Forum was held online from 12:00 to 14:00 GMT (20:00 to 22:00 Beijing time). The GGN Executive Committee invited all official representatives of GGN institutional members, GGN individual members, and GGN honorary members to participate. More than 200 people attended the meeting, involving multiple countries, with representatives from 41 Chinese World Geoparks participating. The meeting discussed the GGN activity report from January to September 2018, geoparks and COVID-19, resilient areas, and digital activities of geoparks. Jin Xiaochi, the representative of the Asia-Pacific Geoparks Network, spoke at the conference.
On November 18, the UNESCO Global Geoparks meet-up was held online from 12:00 to 14:00 GMT (20:00 to 22:00 Beijing time). The meeting discussed issues related to the UNESCO Global Geoparks Programme. Kristof Vandenberghe, Director of the Division of Earth Sciences and Geo-Hazard Risk Reduction at UNESCO, introduced the "UNESCO Global Geoparks Programme – Activity Report and 2020-2021 Geopark Field Missions." Guy Martini, Chair of the UNESCO Global Geoparks Council, explained the "New Checklist Document and Annotations."
Due to the impact of the pandemic, field inspections of Global Geoparks requiring reassessment were postponed from 2020 to 2021. This meeting released the latest information, provided guidance for the evaluation of each Global Geopark, and pointed out directions for the next steps of the parks' work.
