East China Normal University
The East China Normal University is located in Shanghai. It is a comprehensive research-oriented national key university directly under the Ministry of Education, and jointly constructed by the Ministry of Education and the People’s Government of Shanghai Municipality.
Founded on October 16, 1951, the university was established on the former site of Daxia University, based on Daxia University (1924) and Guanghua University (1925), with some departments and disciplines merged from universities including St. John's University, Fudan University, Tongji University and Zhejiang University.
In 1959, it was designated by the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China as one of the 16 national key universities. In 1996, it was listed among the national key universities under the "211 Project". In 2006, the Ministry of Education and Shanghai Municipality decided to jointly build East China Normal University, and the university entered the list of "985 Project" universities. In 2017, it was selected as a Class A university in the national World First-Class University Construction Initiative.
As of October 2024, East China Normal University has two campuses, Putuo and Minhang, covering a total area of approximately 207 hectares, with a total library collection of more than 5.388 million volumes. It consists of 4 faculties and 34 schools (departments), offering 63 undergraduate majors.
The university has 36 first-level disciplines authorized to confer doctoral degrees, 37 first-level disciplines and 3 second-level disciplines authorized to confer master’s degrees, 36 types of professional master’s programs and 8 types of professional doctoral programs, as well as 27 postdoctoral research stations.
