Introduction to Jiangxi Normal University
Jiangxi Normal University is co-sponsored by the Ministry of Education and the People’s Government of Jiangxi Province. It is a university included in the Basic Capacity Building Project for Universities in the Central and Western Regions and the Excellent Teacher Training Program.
The university covers 10 major discipline categories, including Literature, History, Philosophy, Economics, Management, Law, Science, Engineering, Education, and Art. It is designated as a provincial key normal university with priority for development by the People’s Government of Jiangxi Province.
The university traces its cultural heritage to Bailudong Academy on Mountain Lushan, and its history of running a school dates back to National Chung Cheng University founded in 1940. It was renamed National Nanchang University in 1949, reorganized as Jiangxi Normal College in 1953, and adopted its current name Jiangxi Normal University in 1983. It is a degree-conferring unit authorized to award doctoral degrees, as well as one of the first universities in China authorized to confer bachelor’s and master’s degrees.
As of October 2025, the university has two campuses: Yaohu and Qingshanhu. It consists of 21 professional schools, 3 industry colleges, and 1 independent college, offering 69 undergraduate majors.
It has 14 first-level disciplines authorized to confer doctoral degrees, 1 professional doctoral program, and 7 postdoctoral research (work) stations. It also offers 27 first-level disciplines authorized to confer master’s degrees and 25 professional master’s programs.
