The Academy of Aerospace Information Innovation, Chinese Academy of Sciences (hereinafter referred to as "AAII") was established through the integration of the Institute of Electronics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Institute of Remote Sensing and Digital Earth, the China Remote Sensing Satellite Ground Station, and the Academy of Opto-Electronics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, etc. Among them, the Institute of Electronics, founded in 1956, is China's first comprehensive electronic information science research institute; the Institute of Remote Sensing and Digital Earth, established in 1979, is the birthplace of China's remote sensing science and technology innovation; the China Remote Sensing Satellite Ground Station, put into operation in 1986, filled the gap in China's satellite remote sensing technology field; the Academy of Opto-Electronics, founded in 2003, is a research unit with both overall management and overall technical functions in the fields of optoelectronic engineering, aerospace and applied science and technology.

At present, AAII has formed a multi-park layout centered in Beijing and radiating important regions across the country. It has a Beijing headquarters, 3 R&D bases in Suzhou, Jinan and Guangzhou, and test sites including Miyun, Kashgar, Sanya, Huailai, Siziwang Banner, Yingkou, Lijiang, Mohe and Haiyang.
