Nanjing University is a time-honored and prestigious institution of higher education. It is among the first group of national key universities included in the "211 Project" and "985 Project", one of the first national "Double First-Class" initiative universities, and one of the first national innovation and entrepreneurship demonstration bases.

The university currently has four campuses: Xianlin, Gulou, Pukou and Suzhou, and is home to 46 schools.

Boasting a strong faculty, Nanjing University has 33 members of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and 3 members of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, nearly 400 person-times of national-level leading talents, and more than 450 person-times of national-level young talents.

A total of 177 person-times serve as chief scientists of major national science and technology projects, including the National Key Science and Technology Projects, the "973 Program", the "863 Program", the National Science and Technology Innovation 2030 Major Projects, and the National Key R&D Program.

In addition, the Nanjing University has 24 members of the Academic Degrees Appraisal Committee of the State Council, 11 National Famous Teachers, and 38 national-level candidates of the "Ten-Thousand Talents Program".
