05-Jun-2016 00:00

The new species of Mount Sanqing, "Mount Sanqing holly", was officially published in the international botanical journal "Norwegian Journal of Botany" a few days ago. The article is entitled "A new species of Ilex family in Jiangxi, China - Mount Sanqing holly", which marks that the new species identity of Mount Sanqing holly has been recognized by the international academic community. This is also another new plant species found in Mount Sanqing after the "Ruhuai Plantago Lithospermum" was published in 2014. The discovery of holly in Mount Sanqing and Lithospermum plantarum in Ruhuai has enriched plant species diversity and species genetic gene pool in Mount Sanqing.

In recent years, Mount Sanqing has strengthened the forestry ecological protection, and specially opened scientific research routes to vigorously support experts and scholars to explore the regional biology. The Mount Sanqing holly discovered this time grows in gentle slopes and valleys at an altitude of 1300 to 1550 meters, and its distribution range is extremely narrow. There are only two distribution points, both located in the park. The number of all adult individuals is less than 100, and it is an extremely endangered species. The discovery of new species will contribute to the study of biodiversity in Mount Sanqing and even in the world.
