Endemic to China, a Class III key protected wild plant in Jiangxi Province. An evergreen tree, with leaves that are entire or with several small teeth above the middle; monoecious, with red or yellow anthers; fruit is nearly spherical. Flowering period is April to May; fruiting period is November to December. It is an ornamental tree for gardens; the wood can be used for cultivating shiitake mushrooms or for construction and carving, and the resin can be used medicinally.
